Project Spotlight: The Master Suite Expansion
Transformation is often about seeing the potential beyond existing boundaries. In this recent renovation project, we took two separate, dated rooms and reimagined them as a singular, expansive sanctuary for a couple. By prioritizing spatial flow and a sophisticated material palette, we turned a fragmented layout into a “snatched,” editorial-ready master suite.
Zoning with Style: The Frosted Partition
To maintain the “huge room” feel while creating distinct zones, we introduced a custom wooden grid partition with frosted glass inserts. This architectural element separates the sleeping quarters from the lounge and dressing area. It offers privacy and organization without blocking the flow of natural light, acting as a piece of art in its own right.
The Window Treatment: Scaling Up
Design is often in the details. While the structural half-window was retained, we visually elongated the space by using full-length, floor-to-ceiling curtains in a neutral oatmeal tone. This technique masks the window’s original proportions, making the ceilings feel higher and the walls more expansive.
The Structural Shift: Breaking Boundaries
The core of this renovation involved a significant structural change: demolishing the dividing wall between two smaller rooms. This opened up the floor plan, allowing for a 2250 sqft residence’s master wing to breathe. The result is a multi-functional suite that accommodates a sleeping area, a private lounge, and a walk-in closet without feeling crowded.
Material & Texture: A Modern Overhaul
We stripped away the high-gloss, dated cabinetry and floral motifs of the past to make way for a contemporary, grounded aesthetic.
- Flooring: The original dark stone was replaced with rich wooden flooring, instantly warming the space and providing a cohesive foundation for the entire suite.
- The Feature Wall: Behind the bed, we installed a custom chevron-patterned headboard flanked by walnut-toned fluted panels. Built-in niches with minimalist globe sconces provide both functional lighting and a boutique-hotel vibe.
- Ceiling Design: The raw construction was hidden behind a sleek, multi-level false ceiling with integrated recessed lighting and a minimalist fan, ensuring the overhead space felt as polished as the rest of the room.
The Final Result
By removing the “old” and embracing a curated, modern vision, this project demonstrates how thoughtful renovation can completely shift the energy of a home. From a cramped, dated interior to a sophisticated retreat, this suite is a perfect blend of high-end aesthetics and daily comfort.
